How to create a CNAME record Print

  • 0

A CNAME points one hostname to another hostname (rather than to an IP).

  1. Open Zone Editor (article 131) and click Manage for your domain.
  2. Click Add Record and choose CNAME.
  3. Enter: - Name: the subdomain (for example, www) - CNAME (points to): the target hostname (for example, yourdomain.co.za)
  4. Save.

Tip: CNAMEs are commonly used to point www to your root domain, or to connect third-party services that ask you to "add a CNAME."
