How to set up your own private nameservers Print

  • 0

Private nameservers (vanity nameservers) let clients point domains to ns1.yourbrand.co.za instead of ours.

  1. At your registrar, create "host records" / "child nameservers" for ns1 and ns2 on your brand domain, each pointing to your server IP address(es). If you have only one IP, you can point both to it (a second IP is better for redundancy).
  2. In WHM, go to Server Configuration > Basic WebHost Manager Setup, enter your nameservers, and use the option to set up their A records.
  3. Wait for the nameserver registration to propagate (up to 24–48 hours).
  4. Test by setting a domain to your new nameservers.

Note: The exact "host record" steps vary by registrar. If you get stuck registering the nameservers, contact support@hostingpartners.co.za for guidance.
